The Information and Communication Theory Lab (ICT Lab) is part of the Signal Processing Systems Group, Department of Electrical Engineering, Eindhoven University of Technology, The Netherlands.
Led by Alex Alvarado, the lab currently consists of 5 academics, 3 postdocs, 12 PhD students, multiple guest researchers, and approximately 8 bachelor/master students per year.
Main research interests lie in information and communication theory and its applications, focusing on fundamental limits of information processing (transmission, storage, and sensing) in modern digital society.
The lab traces its roots to 1972 when Prof. Piet Schalkwijk established the Informatie en Communicatietheorie Group, initially focusing on source coding, channel coding, and multiuser information theory.
In the 1980s, Tjalling Tjalkens and Frans Willems joined and continued research in information and communication theory after Schalkwijk's retirement.
