Research Experience
  • The Information and Communication Theory Lab (ICT Lab) is part of the Signal Processing Systems Group, Department of Electrical Engineering, Eindhoven University of Technology, The Netherlands.
  • Led by Alex Alvarado, the lab currently consists of 5 academics, 3 postdocs, 12 PhD students, multiple guest researchers, and approximately 8 bachelor/master students per year.
  • Main research interests lie in information and communication theory and its applications, focusing on fundamental limits of information processing (transmission, storage, and sensing) in modern digital society.
  • The lab traces its roots to 1972 when Prof. Piet Schalkwijk established the Informatie en Communicatietheorie Group, initially focusing on source coding, channel coding, and multiuser information theory.
  • In the 1980s, Tjalling Tjalkens and Frans Willems joined and continued research in information and communication theory after Schalkwijk's retirement.
