The CIIGAR Lab is housed in the Computer Science Department at North Carolina State University (NC State) and is affiliated with NC State's Digital Games Research Center.
The lab conducts interdisciplinary research, primarily focusing on Reinforcement Learning (RL) and Canine Research.
In RL research, the lab aims to improve learning algorithms' ability to rapidly learn from human trainers by integrating quantitative behavior analysis and developing novel RL algorithms based on behavioral principles.
In canine research, the lab investigates how human trainers effectively communicate with and teach dogs, applying these insights to machine learning algorithm design and developing hardware/software to mediate human-dog communication.
The lab previously conducted significant research in games (Computational Intelligence and Interactive Games Research), but this focus has greatly diminished in recent years.
