Research Experience
  • Led the Advanced Controls Research Lab (ACRL) in flight tests at Edwards AFB using a Learjet augmented with L1 adaptive flight control law
  • Collaborated with the USAF Test Pilot School (TPS) and Calspan to test 16 variable stability system (VSS) configurations on a Calspan Learjet
  • Flight tests assessed handling qualities for landing tasks and evaluated robustness margins (gain and time-delay) of the L1 controller
  • Objective: demonstrate L1’s ability to maintain nominal handling qualities under aircraft failures (aerodynamic changes, control loss, CG shifts, etc.)
  • Built upon prior NASA Langley AirSTAR tests (2009–2011) and TUDelft SIMONA simulator evaluations (2011)
  • Conducted further extensive flight tests in 2016 (VISTA platform) and 2018 (Learjet)
