Academic Achievements
Serves as an associate editor for several journals including PACMMOD/SIGMOD (since 2026), VLDBJ (since August 2023), and ACM Transactions on Database Systems (TODS, since January 2018). Since mid-2022, he has been the chair of the International Conference on Database Theory (ICDT) council.
Research Experience
Contributions include adaptive query processing, query optimization, machine learning over relational data, incremental maintenance for database and machine learning, factorized databases, incomplete information and probabilistic databases, XML query processing, and the commercial systems LogicBlox and RelationalAI.
Background
A full professor of computer science and the head of the Data Systems and Theory (DaST) group. His research interests include understanding computational challenges in data processing and designing simple and scalable solutions towards these challenges. Theoretical research involves the development of novel data processing algorithms and languages along with the analysis of their complexities. Systems research focuses on building data systems in academia and industry based on well-understood theory.
