This article provides a systematic, practical roadmap for prospective authors in the communications research community, drawing upon extensive editorial experience from premier venues such as the IEEE Communications Surveys & Tutorials. We present structured guidelines covering seven essential aspects: strategic topic selection with novelty and importance, systematic literature collection, effective structural organization, critical review writing, tutorial content development with emphasis on case studies, comprehensive illustration design that enhances comprehension, and identification of future directions. Our goal is to enable junior researchers to craft exceptional survey and tutorial articles that enhance understanding and accelerate innovation within the communications and networking research ecosystem.
