Automation Engineer II

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania / MTVHQ, Mountain View, California, United States2026-07-21

About the job

Aurora is searching for an Automation Engineer II to join our IT Operations team. This role builds the automation pipelines that turn manual, repetitive IT work into permanent, auditable, scalable solutions, from employee/contractor lifecycle automation and identity integrations to the intelligence behind our Slack-based support bot that can resolve user-submitted issues directly in-thread.

Responsibilities

Build automation for employee and contractor onboarding and offboarding workflows, creating repeatable, auditable processes that reduce manual touchpoints

Build the response and task-execution logic for Aurora’s Slack-based IT support bot, interpreting user-submitted issues and triggering deterministic automations to resolve them without a ticket being assigned to a human

Implement the logic that determines when an issue can be resolved automatically versus when it should escalate to a human under guidance from the Service Desk Lead and management

Implement full audit logging on all automated resolutions to ensure every action taken is traceable and reviewable post-run

Work with the Service Desk Lead to identify high-volume manual and repetitive ticket patterns and translate them into automation project requirements

Implement governance automations that keep platforms and systems in compliance without manual intervention

Build alerting pipelines for compliance drift, escalating to the appropriate platform owner when thresholds set by platform owners are breached

Partner with the IAM team to build integrations for access reviews and provisioning into non-SCIM, non-Okta-managed applications

Qualifications

Minimum

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field and a minimum of 3 years of prior relevant experience

Or an advanced degree in a related field and a minimum of 2 years of experience

Proficiency in Python and/or JavaScript/TypeScript for building production automation and workflow tooling (not just scripting)

Experience with Bash/shell scripting for systems-level automation tasks

Experience working with event-driven architectures such as webhooks or message queues for triggering automated workflows

Experience building LLM-driven automations that make decisions, call tools/APIs, or route work based on context rather than fixed, binary logic

Experience designing and consuming REST and/or GraphQL APIs across multiple platforms and vendors (e.g. Okta, Slack, Google Workspace, Jira, Workday, etc.)

Familiarity with OAuth2.0/OIDC and API authentication patterns for secure service-to-service integration

Experience building auditable, event logged systems driven by need for compliance

Track record of driving a defined project from requirements definition through to a fully implemented production solution

Strong written and verbal communication skills for regular stakeholder updates to project stakeholders and management on automation build status

Preferred

Familiarity with prompt-based orchestration frameworks/platforms

Familiarity with identity and access management concepts including SCIM and non-SCIM provisioning

Understanding of where agentic automation is (and is not) appropriate (e.g. structured intake/triage of novel issues vs. tasks requiring consistent, repeatable and auditable outcomes)

Experience in an IT operations, corporate engineering, or platform engineering environment
