As a Software Engineer, Communications Safety, you'll build the chat and communication systems that let people and creators express themselves better than in real life, and keep them safe at scale. You'll ship the real-time detection systems that help scale and protect billions of messages across 2D and 3D spaces and stay ahead of bad actors trying to evade our safety measures, so expression and trust go hand in hand.
Responsibilities
Engineer and scale next-generation infrastructure to accommodate our rapidly expanding user base, maintaining systems capable of supporting millions of concurrent users.
Work with cutting-edge ML—model tuning and prompt engineering—to build safe chat experiences that are novel even by industry standards.
Design and implement top-tier moderation systems to uphold global and regional policy compliance, preventing harmful content across a variety of developer-customized communication products
Introduce and improve our processes to help us be more effective and efficient.
Enforce high quality standards while we iterate on feature development.
Collaborate with other engineering and product teams (Game engine, Creator, Trust & Safety to name a few) at the company to push the boundary of what is possible
Self-organize and take ownership of projects throughout its full lifecycle.
Qualifications
Minimum
Experience in backend software development
2+ years industry experience building and supporting ML systems in a production environment.
Hold a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a similar technical field.
Experience collaborating with backend engineers on client/server design and architecture for high-scale products, including knowledge of performance principles like caching and modern technologies.
Experience collaborating with cross-functional partners in Product, Design, and Data Science to drive meaningful results that align with the team's overarching vision
Preferred
Experience building communication products and features.
Experience working closely with design, strong design interest/background.
Experience with LLMs
Experience using big data query/processing languages and tools such as SQL, Hive, Spark and Airflow
Experience of test driven development.
