Between Policy and Practice: GenAI Adoption in Agile Software Development Teams

This study reveals a systemic misalignment between the practical adoption of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) in agile software development and existing organizational policies. Drawing on the Technology–Organization–Environment (TOE) framework, the research synthesizes findings from 17 semi-structured interviews and document analyses across three German companies, employing both within-case and cross-case thematic analysis. The results indicate that GenAI is predominantly leveraged for ideation, documentation, and code assistance, enhancing both efficiency and creativity, yet its deployment is constrained by data privacy concerns, high validation costs, and insufficient governance mechanisms. The study underscores the necessity of coherently aligning technological capabilities, organizational structures, and environmental contingencies within the TOE framework to enable compliant and effective GenAI integration, thereby offering both theoretical insights and practical pathways to bridge the gap between policy and practice.

Operationalizing the EU AI Act in Agile Software Development: A Guideline-Based Approach

This study addresses the absence of concrete mapping mechanisms for implementing the EU AI Act within agile teams. Employing a Design Science Research methodology, this work proposes a novel framework that translates abstract regulatory requirements into actionable agile compliance guidelines. Through a traffic light taxonomy and expert interviews, an action catalog comprising twelve practices covering roles and risk management was constructed. The results demonstrate that these guidelines are both comprehensible and relevant, establishing that compliance should be integrated into existing agile activities rather than treated as a parallel process. Ultimately, this research bridges the gap in regulatory operationalization, providing a reusable methodological foundation that enables agile teams to achieve compliance without compromising iterative efficiency.

Overcoming Challenges in Agile and DevOps Integration: A Qualitative Study

This study addresses the persistent challenges impeding the effective integration of Agile and DevOps practices, which are often constrained by cultural, organizational, procedural, and technological barriers that undermine software delivery performance. Through semi-structured interviews with six senior practitioners from Brazil and Germany, the research employs qualitative thematic analysis to systematically identify—within a cross-national context—four core integration challenges and proposes a corresponding solution framework. The findings underscore the pivotal roles of cultural alignment, team autonomy, process coordination, and infrastructure automation, highlighting that organizational and cultural factors are critical enablers of successful technical integration. By elucidating these interdependencies, the study offers actionable, cross-cultural guidance for software organizations seeking to enhance their Agile–DevOps convergence and overall delivery effectiveness.

Neurodiversity in Agile Teams: Obstacles and Inclusion Barriers

This study investigates the inclusivity barriers and collaborative practices experienced by neurodivergent individuals in agile software development teams. Employing a mixed-methods approach—combining content analysis of online discourse from Reddit and LinkedIn with semi-structured interviews of eleven industry experts in neurodiversity—the research offers the first systematic account of the fragmented state of neuroinclusion within agile practices. Findings reveal that, despite the inherent potential of agile methodologies to support inclusion, rigid processes, prevailing stereotypes, and insufficient support mechanisms hinder the effective integration of neurodivergent team members. Moreover, organizations generally lack targeted awareness, thereby failing to leverage the cognitive strengths neurodivergent individuals bring. The paper argues for replacing one-size-fits-all standards with flexible, adaptive frameworks to cultivate agile environments genuinely supportive of neurodiversity.

The 2nd Workshop on Agile Practice & Research: A Summary and Call For Research

This study addresses the persistent theory–practice gaps in agile software development—specifically theoretical, temporal, and translational disconnects—by convening the Second Workshop on Agile Practice and Research, which brought together academic and industry stakeholders. Through qualitative methods including structured small-group collaboration, reflective discussions, and synthesis of outputs, the work investigates the root causes of these gaps. Building on these insights, it proposes four propositions to enhance intersection mechanisms and distills them into three research imperatives centered on open science, theoretical rigor, and value orientation. The study concludes with four practical recommendations: improving scholarly communication, aligning with industry needs, incentivizing sustained collaboration, and integrating educational practices—collectively advancing agile research toward greater transparency, methodological rigor, and practical relevance.

A Systematic AI Adoption Framework for Higher Education: From Student GenAI Usage to Institutional Integration

This study addresses the absence of systematic mechanisms in higher education institutions to effectively align institutional policies, curricula, and students’ generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) practices, which has led to regulatory ambiguity and academic integrity risks. Employing a mixed-methods approach—including policy document analysis, a survey of 151 computer science students, quantitative statistical analysis, and thematic synthesis of open-ended responses—the research identifies ChatGPT as the predominant GenAI tool, primarily used for research assistance, programming, and text processing. Findings reveal widespread gaps in students’ awareness of institutional policies and underlying structural deficiencies. In response, the study proposes the first lightweight, iterative GenAI adoption framework tailored for higher education, integrating governance, pedagogy, and assessment to bridge terminological vagueness, regulatory gaps, and misalignment between policy and practice, demonstrating its feasibility and practical utility in guiding systematic GenAI integration.
